Diagnosis

Diagnose_Species: Epitheca conical, hypotheca rounded. Epitheca larger than hypotheca. Plate tabulation pattern po, x, 4', 3a, 7'', 6c (5c + t), 6s, 5''', 2''''. Vegetative cells 17–48 µm long and 14–30µm wide. Cysts spherical (22–30 µm diameter) and noncalcareous, covered with conical or columned organic spines. The operculum includes plates 2'-4' and 1a-3a. The proportion of operculum to empty cyst is about 1:4.

donghaienis is derived from the Chinese word for East China Sea and refers to the geographic area in which the type material was collected.
