Diagnosis
Solitary. Goldenbrown in color, and lacking a cell wall. Cells uninucleate with a single chloroplast and immersed pyrenoid; lacking flagella, stigma, or basal bodies.
Spherical or subspherical cells 1.5-2.0 pm, no known flagellar stage. Golgi body immersed in the cytoplasm, appressed to a concavity in the nuclear membrane. Exocellular polysaccharide-like material abundant. Cysts unknown.
Etymology
The name of this organism means: golden yellow sphere causing the lack of feeding.
